Colts bow out with gutsy show

ROCHDALE Junior Colts bowed out of the Halbro League Plate despite a committed performance against a bigger and stronger Oldham team who won 12-5.
Oldham dominated territorially, and it was a tribute to Rochdale’s defensive qualities that the score was restricted.
The only points of the first half came from a somewhat lucky Oldham try from a sliced miskick. When they added a converted try in the second period, Rochdale were up against it.
Seven minutes from time Rochdale pulled five points back. Phil Cowburn made a break and fed Toby Porter who stepped the fullback to score.
But time ran out and Oldham finished worthy winners.
Phil Cowburn took the award for best Rochdale back, ably assisted by Toby Porter and Andy Coop whose textbook tackling caught the eye.
