Hornets hit by injury blows

29/ 3/2008

BOBBIE Goulding was pleased to get his first win of the National League Two campaign under his belt at London Skolars on Monday.

Hornets bounced back from Good Friday’s 46-32 home defeat against Oldham to win 54-4 following an impressive first-half display at White Hart Lane.

But it isn’t all a bed of roses at Spotland for Goulding as he explained: "The first win is what you are always looking for and the lads were outstanding in the first half.

"I’m very happy with the team and their commitment in training and during matches.

"Obviously, with a small squad, I would like to sign more players. But I am concerned one or two people are not rowing in the same boat as me."

Goulding didn’t want to elaborate on that comment, choosing instead to focus on tomorrow’s challenging away fixture against Workington Town, a team which has lost its first two league games.

Two matches in four days have taken their toll, with several key players missing the clash.

Goulding said: "It’s another long journey, but you can look at it either way.

"From my point of view it’s two difficult away fixtures out the way. But with three games in nine days it’s a bit tough when they include two long trips."

Dave Best, Chris Spurr, Paul Alcock and Wayne Corcoran will be out injured, while Chris Campbell is doubtful.

Goulding said: "We are struggling this weekend to be truthful.

"It’s difficult. When you are going up to Workington you need your full strength side out, there's no substitute for experience."

The Hornets’ boss is looking for a full 80 minutes from his squad, something rarely managed this season.

He added: "We need a performance which combines the first half against London Skolars and the second half against Oldham.

"At the moment we can’t seem to play for the full 80 minutes, with one half good and the other half poor. But we have just got to get on with it and give it our best shot."
