SIR Alex Ferguson's brother Martin has been on a scouting mission in Italy to keep tabs on Cagliari's David Suazo.

The 27-year-old Honduras international, who was a member of his country's 2000 Sydney Olympics XI, has scored 58 goals in 182 matches for the Italian outfit since signing from Honduras side Olimpia in 1999.

But his figures this term have been the most eye-catching having scored 17 in 32 Serie A matches.

Reds boss Ferguson also watched summer targets Jean Makoun and fellow midfielder Mathieu in action for Lille against PSG on Tuesday night.

"The guy plays for cagliari so if he was that good the likes of Juve or Inter would be in for him. So I think there are question marks."- Well they are and have been trying to sign him. Suazo is an amazing talent, with Ole and Saha hobbling throught their careers...Suazo would be a welcomed sight. By looking at previous posts, it seems a blonde haired & blue eyed striker is preferred.

I feel fergie over the past few years has been signing duffers if he is handed a substantial transfer kitty i beleive the money should be spent on two world class centre midfields, that is the only area I feel we need to strengthen.

J, Tevez would be a great signing, but the quoted price from Corinthans is ??50m, even with negotiating that price isn't going to come down enough, to the budget that uncle Malc has apparently set at ??25m. I agree with you fully about Mascherano though , this kid is the business having seen him first hand numerous times. His price will skyrocket after the WC, as will Tevez

Let's get one thing straight: YOU SPELL HIS NAME MASCHERANO!!!! Why doesn't anyone like Tevez? He is obviosly the best young talent that is up for a transfer this summer. Get him now and you'll have a replacement for RVN later before anyone else gets him. For all those people who think we will have too many strikers, look at Juventus who have trezeguet, del piero, ibrahimovic, miccoli, and the guy who's name starts with a T. Milan had shevchenko, inzaghi, gilardino, and vieri. And tevez can play in the midfield. Any problems???

alex ferguson should go for jean makoun as we need a replacement for roy keane and David suazo because he can provide goals but should go for makoun because a midfielder is the top prioprity

I think that Man Utd have a fantastic squad, but they have a huge hole in the center defensive midfielder area. The best option for that position i reckon is Diarra, but he is going to Real so they might as well be looking for someone else like Gravesen. I'm Honduran so theres nothing i would like more then to see David Suazo wearing the Man Utd jearsy. Ferggie don't hesitate buy him. 18 goals playing for Calgiari are no coincidence.

good!you are confused by sir alex move in the transfer target.this is exactly what we need to do to chelsea.we don't want them especially kenyon to know our real plan case he does a sabo job.don't be surprise sir alex will come out with surprise signing (like park,vds,vidic,evra).everybody out there including the newspaper thinks we are going to buy the usual suspect.let's see.........i have a feeling we will see some surprise signing again.

Please don't regard this as a racist comment; I'm a huge fan of for instance Eto'o and Ronaldinho, I just don't think they fit in English football.

nick, zurich: I agree that players from South America and Africa are risky purchases, but I don't feel this because they occasionally participate in international tournaments. Such tournaments are arranged every fourth year or so. However, I'm afraid that players from these parts of the world will fail to adapt to English football.

Very few of these players succeed in England. Look at Drogba, Veron, Forlan, etc, for instance! I know Okocha and the likes of him suggests the opposite, but there's a certain risk conected to these players - and as the situation is now we can't afford players who turn out to nothing.

Go for a player who has proved himself in England, Germany or so!

I think George Boeteng and Javier Mascherno would be good additions to the squad. Boeteng has alot of experience and has played in the Premiership for nearly 8 years. He is 29 and if we can attract him with a good 3 year deal then he might come, and he is a free agent. Mascherano is a player with alot of potential, but it might be alot of pressure to be the one to solve our midfield straight away. By having Boeteng arrive with him the transaction would be easier and would give Mascherno time to settle and adapt to England and the football. He is South American and still a young man, so its natural it could take him time to settle. Gabby Heinze had played in Spain, Portugal and France before he arrived to Manchster, thats why he settled quicker. Mascherano may cost around ??12-15 million, and Boeteng is a free agent. That wouldn't be bad business for the summer. Also Scholes, Jones, O'Shea, Giggs and Smith can still play in the middle.

I personally dont think Carrick is good enough he's a decent player but we already have a lot of decent players.It's great players we need.As for Boateng forget it he's another Kleberson ect!.

Break up Corinthians by getting carlos tevez and javier marscheno. marscheno can replace keane and tevez can play as a striker or middy.

Manchester should go for Suazo. He is one of the fastest players in Serie A and a hard worker. He has scored more than half of Cagliari's goals this season and the reason they are in Serie A in the first place.

I was at the Inter v Cagliari game in Milan in January and Suaza was outstanding. The similarity between him and Adriano of Inter was quite marked and I would not dismiss this guy out of hand. Like Saha he has strength and pace and the fact that he has scored a fair few goals over the last couple of seasons in Serie A whist playing for one of the lesser sides would indicate that he is worth considering.

If we are always talking about players from sout america or africa... has anyone ever taken into account that does player may not be the right ones for manutd?? I mean they have to join the likes of copa america, africa cup of nations etc. I haven't forgotten about the start of gaby. He wasn't available for a few matches at the beginning of the season and that is obviously where we lose points. Or the africans, they are leaving during january.. a striker can be replaced but if we do rely on someone who should be or become our engine, then I really think it should be a proven european. Anyway, we only need 1 first class midfielder (a new boss) the rest could be filled up with younger (21 - 25) british players. And we should let fletscher, o'shea and silvestre go. happy holidays

I think ManUtd can not find a better midfielder than Boro's Boateng in our search for midfield reinforcements. He is a very talented, experienced, hard working midfielder and the most important he is becoming a free agent at the end of the season. In addition, if we manage to buy one of Diarra or Mascherano and the return of Scholes we will be able to challenge at every level next year.

I'm more concerned about a tabloid story this morning about Saha being carried off the training ground with an ankle injury that, allegedly, will keep him out of this weekend's games and possibly the rest of the season. Anything in this?
