Cost increase to win promotion

14/ 6/2008

IT WILL cost more for most adults to watch football at Spotland next season.

But the added income will go towards boosting the fund available to manager Keith Hill as Dale bid to maintain the impetus created by last season’s play-off final visit to Wembley.

Matchday admission will rise by £2, but the club has said the increase will go directly towards the manager’s playing budget so that the extra contribution will be there for people to see every week - out on the pitch.

A statement released by Dale earlier this week said the club is committed to significantly increasing the funds available for players.

Directors recognise the admission increase is not without risk, but it is a calculated risk.

Club chairman Chris Dunphy said: "My fellow directors and I, supporters just like you, are supporting our goal of promotion to League One next May. We have had a taste of success, and like you we are hungry for more.

"We know you too are totally committed to the success of the club, and together our support of the manager and the team will bring even greater success to Rochdale."

Other sources of income will help swell the amount available to Keith Hill.

Earlier this year season-ticket holders were given a chance to purchase tickets for the 2008-09 season at last season’s prices, and almost 1,000 took up the offer.

Those who buy season-tickets at the new price will be able to pay in instalments. This is in recognition of fans having spent heavily to support the team at Wembley.

Under 12 and under 16 season-ticket prices will not be increased, and under sevens will still be admitted free of charge. There will also be family tickets available for the WMG stand at a lower cost than last season.

BEN Muirhead has been made available for transfer. Assistant manager Dave Flitcroft said: "Ben did really well for us when we brought him to the club, and he is very popular in the dressing room, but we are looking to progress and to move on. This kind of shape shifting in the squad is part of the progression we have to make. We obviously wish Ben well and will do all we can to help him get fixed up with a new club."

MEANWHILE, Nicky Adams has still not put pen to a new contract at Bury. Adams was wanted by Dale in January, and if the rumour mill is to be believed the forward is still on a Keith Hill "players liked" list.
