Rochdale 3 Grimsby 1

Mike Brookes
5/ 4/2008

SUBSTITUTE Rene Howe proved to be a hat-trick hero, the third player in four home games to take home the match ball, as Dale eased past Grimsby and moved into sixth place.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men after striker Nathan Jarman received two yellow cards in five first-half minutes and were rarely in the game.

Howe opened his account three minutes into the second half with a close-range header and added a second on 57 minutes when he fired home via the inside of the post.

Grimsby substitute Andy Taylor pulled a goal back with five minutes to go, but with the last kick of the game Howe completed his hat-trick with a little help from visiting keeper Phil Barnes.
