BIRTHDAY boy Adam Le Fondre came closest to breaking the deadlock at Spotland but Dale had to settle for a point against struggling Wrexham.

Le Fondre celebrates his 21st birthday on Sunday and he almost marked it in style with a second-half shot that came back off the crossbar. 

The Dragons were put under almost constant pressure in the first-half at Spotland with youngster Kallum Higginbotham shooting over from a tight angle while David Perkins’s  strike was blocked in the box.

The best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to Le Fondre, who span around to hit a low shot that went narrowly wide.

Le Fondre was desperately unlucky with the game’s one moment of magic with a 64th minute chipped shot from the edge of the Wrexham area which beat keeper Anthony Williams struck the bar.

But Wrexham, who were a little more adventurous in the second period, almost had a breakthrough of their own when Rochdale keeper Sam Russell fumbled Matty Done’s shot from the left away for a corner.

Higginbotham then had a header saved by Williams as Keith Hill’s side pressed for the goal that wouldn't come.
