Holder is quick replacement for Test player

CLL CHAMPIONS Rochdale Carcraft have moved swiftly to sign up a new professional after Ryan Hinds had been recalled to the West Indian Test squad for games against Sri Lanka and Australia this summer.

Alcindo Holder, the big-hitting Barbadian right-hander, returns to Redbrook, having been their paid man in the 2006 season during which he scored 1,455 runs and took 20 wickets.

Holder, who survived a near fatal stabbing injury last year, is now fully fit, and such has been his form in domestic cricket this year that he has been been recalled to the Barbadian state side.

A spokesman for Rochdale Carcraft said: "Obviously we are disappointed that Ryan cannot return for another season as intended.

"It’s unfortunate but cannot be helped.

"But we know we have a fine replacement in Alcindo, a punishing batsman who was the JW Lees Wood Cup player of the year in the season he was with us.

"We are also hoping to sign a slow off-spin bowler, Dane Currency, who is also from Barbados, as our overseas amateur.

"He took quite a lot of wickets in local domestic cricket, and observers over there are predicting a big future for him."

Meanwhile, Rochdale have appointed all-rounder Mark Butterworth as second team skipper and veteran Gerald Shooter as third team captain.

The club is also selling tickets for its sportsmen’s dinner on 9 May when former rugby league player Kevin Ashcroft will be guest speaker.

WERNETH have signed Sri Lankan all-rounder Upul Chandana as professional.

LAKE Garage have agreed to extend their sponsorship of the Central Lancashire League.
