The news is out - spread it about

20/12/2006

START spreading the news - Touchstones and the Observer have joined forces to celebrate our 150th anniversary.

The Esplanade museum is holding an exhibition to look back at a century-and-a-half of local reporting.

Observing Rochdale uses artefacts from Touchstones' vaults alongside the original stories that appeared in the paper at the time - including a wedding dress from 1909 that appears with a report of the actual ceremony.

Museums officer David Pugh spent months digging through the paper's archives alongside Observer deputy editor Chris Lloyd and MEN media editorial director Richard Catlow.

He said: "We have spent hours reading through old issues which was really interesting because we learnt a lot about the history of Rochdale.

"There is something for everyone in there and so far people seem to be enjoying it."

Observing Rochdale runs until 13 April.
