Pair arrested for submarine peace protest

TWO Rochdale peace protesters have been arrested outside a nuclear submarine base in Scotland.
Pat Sanchez of High Peak, Littleborough and Eileen Moran of Whitworth were arrested for a breach of the peace on Tuesday as they took part in a blockade at Faslane submarine base in Strathclyde.
It is believed the pair, who are members of Littleborough and District Peace Group, had joined the Manchester Faslane365 group which was campaigning against government plans to renew the Trident nuclear weapons system.
A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said: "We can confirm that a 66-year-old female and a 54-year-old female were arrested for an alleged breach of the peace."
Philip Gilligan from LDPG said: "All those taking part in the protest at Faslane recognise the insanity of nuclear weapons and the need to campaign vigorously for the immediate decommissioning of the existing Trident nuclear weapons system and a halt to the government's plan to squander at least £25 billion on its even more dangerous replacement."
