Vandals stop mum visiting son’s grave

THE MOTHER of a schoolboy who died in a tragic house fire says she has stopped visiting his grave because of heartless thieves.

It is nearly a year since nine-year-old Alan Wild perished along with a young mother and two other children when an inferno ripped through a terraced house on Albion Road, Sparth.

But his mother Susan says she is finding it hard to come to terms with her loss because thieves and vandals have been attacking the grave he shares with the other victims of the fire at Whitworth Cemetery.

Mrs Wild said: "They have stolen flowers, including lilies and pot plants and smashed up some fairy lights.

"One bunch of flowers was found in a bin nearby.

"I am upset and angry that someone could do this, especially as they died so tragically.

"I feel like I can't have time to grieve because I don't want to visit the cemetery as I'm afraid of what I might find."

The attacks have come as another devastating blow for Mrs Wild and her three daughters, Natasha, Amanda and Lindsay, following Alan's death at the end of July last year.

Not only is she still unable to afford a headstone for the grave, thieves have targeted her home in Clovelly Street, Sudden.

"My husband made this memorial garden for Alan after his death, because he always liked playing outside," said Mrs Wild.

"It is just a sweet little place with some lights and figures in it but someone has been taking bits and pieces, like fairies. I can't understand why these things keep happening.

"It is almost like a personal attack on us."
