Teenagers on arson charge

TWO teenage boys have been charged with arson following a fire that destroyed the canteen at Brimrod Primary School.
A 14-year-old from Freehold and a 16-year-old from Heywood were arrested on Friday and charged the same day. They are due to appear at Rochdale Youth Court today (Weds).
Police were called to the school in Holborn Street following reports of a fire at 9.55pm on Tuesday 18 April. Fire crews from Rochdale, Heywood and Chadderton spent more than six hours fighting the fierce blaze which ripped through the canteen.
Officers had to cut through the roof of the building to get to the seat of the fire.
After the incident pupils managed with sandwiches supplied by caterers in the school sport's hall and a mobile heater unit gave them a hot food option.
Headteacher Sandra Hartley said at the time that the damaged canteen, separate to the main school building, would have to be demolished and a new one would be built.
