Animal rights link to hoax bomb terror

ANIMAL rights activists are suspected to be behind a hoax bomb sent to a house in Bamford.

Army bomb disposal experts were called out on Friday morning after a woman contacted the police after she opened the suspicious package, which had a battery taped inside.

An area near Bamford Precinct was cordoned off while the package was examined and found to be harmless.

It is thought animal rights protesters could be involved because the company the woman's husband works for has dealings with a laboratory that carries out tests on animals.

Her husband rushed home from work to comfort his wife and speak to police and soldiers.

The man, who asked not to be identified, said: "My wife was very shaken by the incident.

"The package didn't have any names on it and it was the battery taped inside which made her think it was a bomb.

"It's very disturbing when things like this happen and I was very worried.

"We have never had anything like this sent to our house before and I hope it never happens again."

A police spokesman said: "The package was examined and dismantled and an investigation is now underway. We are investigating why this address was targeted."
