Lorna comes out fighting and says she will not take No for an answer

MP Lorna Fitzsimons is playing a leading role in taking the Save the Metrolink campaign right to the top of the government.
After a meeting with the 12 Labour MPs from across Manchester on Thursday it was agreed to arrange talks with transport secretary, Alistair Darling, Chancellor Gordon Brown and the Prime Minister.
Miss Fitzsimons said: "I have no intention of losing this campaign. Government is about making hard decisions. But this was a bad decision, both economically and politically. The government has got to be big enough to accept that it has made a mistake."
"We are not making a party political point. This is a cross-party campaign in which we have government ministers, ex-ministers and backbenchers."
She said they were going to call for an emergency debate at the Labour party conference in September and she has called on the support of Observer readers and the public of Rochdale to support a petition which she intends to present to the House of Commons after the summer recess.
"We are not taking No for an answer," said Miss Fitzsimons. "We have some brilliant officers and councillors on the Greater Manchester Public Transport Authority who could deliver a better financed system. We hope to get details for that before our meetings with Alistair, Gordon and Tony."
