Bus and train passengers have their say on the news

The Observer finds out what passengers have to say about events:

EDWIN Cook, aged 19, of Bacup, said: "It would have been a big help going to and from Manchester."

"It is a bit unfair that money which could be spent on the North could now go to the South."

ADAM Marchbanks, aged 18, of Shawforth said: "I work in Manchester and it would have been a lot easier for me."

"There's no direct link to the rail station from the bus station and it can take an hour and a half on the bus."

JOE Fallon, aged 69, of Smallbridge, said: "I don't think everybody would have used the Metrolink, it would have been useful for some."

"It seems like the government is only interestsed in down South."

Bus passenger LESLEY Greaves, aged 52, of Hurstead, said: "I think they should have had the Metrolink in Rochdale."

"It would have been much better for the environment."

SHAZIA Rasool, aged 18, of Deeplish, said: "I think it would have helped because I do a lot of shopping in Bury."

"The bus takes at least 30 minutes, sometimes longer."

"The system seems to work well in Manchester."

Bus passenger STEPHEN Conway, aged 29, of Spotland, said : "The trams would be a lot quicker than the buses and I use the bus a lot."

"I would definitely use it."
