Animal rights terror threat

ANIMAL rights extremists have vowed to continue a campaign of terror against a Rochdale firm.

A message posted on an activist website names Bamford businessman David Greenhalgh and his wife and gives their address along with details of four others said to have links with animal testing firm, Huntington Life Sciences.

The development comes two weeks after Mr Greenhalgh, boss of Strand Transport Services Ltd, was sent a hoax bomb through the post to his home address.

The Animal Liberation Front has claimed responsibilty for the package.

Now, in an anonymous statement posted on the activist website Bite Back, the ALF says Mr Greenhalgh and the others named will remain a target until they cut ties with the laboratory.

The statement read: "Over the last two weeks five sophisticated but harmless dummy explosive devices were sent to the home addresses of senior personnel of companies who foolishly persist in supporting HLS. They will remain a target of the ALF until they cease all involvement with the lab."

The statement goes on to say: "This was not personal intimidation aimed at the individual, but an action carried out to sabotage and disrupt their company's business relation with Huntingdon Life Sciences.

"More actions will be carried out against these companies unless they sever all ties with HLS.

"We are not fanatics but ordinary decent people who believe that direct action and working outside the law is our only way of effecting real change.

"We have no interest in standing in silence and handing out leaflets while being intimidated by the police, but every intention of ending vivisection once and for all.

"Whether this is done illegally or legally is not down to us but the pharmaceutical industry, government, media and anyone else that perpetuates imprisonment."

The Animal Liberation Front has been waging a campaign against HLS for seven years and targeted many companies that have dealings with it.

The home of Glaxosmithkline executive Simon Bicknell was daubed with white paint and a nursery that runs a childcare scheme for HLS was also threatened.

Mr Greenhalgh said: "We've stepped up security at our premises but other than that business is carrying on as normal."

A police spokesman said: "We are investigating the package that was received two weeks ago."

Robin Webb, the Animal Liberation Front spokesman, said: "This sounds like something activisits would do.

"Activists argue that if they are helping to support animal abuse, in this case vivisection, why should they be able to relax at home when the animals are suffering 24 hours per day?

"All the people have to do is sever links with such abuse."

Hey, Well if you gotta burn in hell well thats the way to go. Most ALF members need to get a job really and get off benefits.

I find ALF in general to be complete terrorists. Following more than 30 years of religious intolerence resulting in the deaths of several thousand in my small part of the UK at least we have moved on to where we have identified each other & can sit down together & try to resolve our differences. Lets face it why should perhaps less than 50 ALF activists be allowed to even begin to try & speak for the legitimately hheld views of millions of UK citizens that the work of animal labs is such a tremendous benefit to mankind. Thank God at last we had a big demo in favour of this life saving work
