Friends in line for skate time

FUND-RAISERS discovered a wheelie good way to raise money for the Observer’s Can You Spare a Minute? campaign.
Over 30 donned in-line skates and colourful costumes for a four-mile sponsored roll from Springhill Hospice to the Brotherod estate.
They were joined by a number of youngsters and fund-raisers on foot, who called into businesses on the way in a bid to collect extra cash.
Keely Park, who was responsible for arranging the event, wanted to support the appeal after her partner’s father, Jack Kershaw, passed away in the hospice earlier this year.
Ms Park said: "The hospice were absolutely brilliant. They did a fantastic job, we couldn’t have asked for anything else. I just wanted to be able to give something back to them. Everyone from the Brotherod estate got involved. We stopped off at quite a few places on the way with buckets and people were very generous. I have to thank Eden Cafe in Norden, too. They put one of my sponsor forms up in there for me and they really didn’t have to do that. I don’t know how much we have raised in total yet, but just on my own I’ve got about £400. I think it will be about £1,000 overall."
