SPRINGHILL Hospice has become the unexpected beneficiary – of a bunch of losers.
The Broad Lane hospice has been sent a cheque for £500, the contents of a wooden box from the now closed Castleton Moor Conservative Club.
The box had been in the games room at the Newchurch Street club for some years and every time a member played snooker, darts or crib and lost he had to put money in it.
The club closed last year but the box has remained in safe keeping and former club treasurer Jack Rideout emptied it last week to find there was £500 in it.
After getting another trustee’s agreement, he banked the money and then sent a cheque to the hospice.
