One couple had a happy ending

A COUPLE have enjoyed the perfect wedding despite having their plans thrown into turmoil by the closure of the Broadfield Hotel.

Colin Johnson and Jill Thomas were devastated when the hotel went into administration just three days before it was due to host their wedding breakfast and evening reception.

They lost £2,500, but were determined not to let the setback ruin their dream day.

After a few frantic telephone calls, the couple were delighted when staff at the Town Hall agreed to stage the reception and worked around the clock to put their plans into place on Saturday.

Jill, aged 33, who works for Rochdale Council, said: "We were shocked and devastated when we heard what had happened to the Broadfield. It was an absolute nightmare because we had spent a year planning the wedding. The staff at the Town Hall were fantastic and we can’t thank them enough. The day was perfect and everything we had hoped for."

Since the Observer reported that the hotel had gone into administration, individuals and businesses have offered their support to the affected couples.

Bar owner David Sinclair has agreed to waive hire charges so that couples can hold their receptions at Twist nightclub in Drake Street.

Littleborough Cricket Club has offered the use of its Willow Room function suite, which can cater for up to 180 guests, free of charge to any affected couples, subject to availability.
