Revolution is ready to rock town to life

19/ 8/2008

AUGUST bank holiday weekend promises to be a Springhill Hospice charity fund-raising spectacular.

We have teamed up with local musicians and businesses to rock Sunday night and raise funds towards our charity appeal by hosting an unsigned musical showcase.

After opening performance slots across Rochdale, bands were cut down to six to play on the night with the help of XFM DJ and Inspiral Carpets keyboard player Clint Boon.

And now Bonnar Coleano from Bonecat music in Drake Street has stepped up to donate a brand new Boston acoustic guitar to be a raffle prize at the big event.

The event will be taking place at Twist night club in Drake Street with owner David Sinclair also planning to boost funds by placing collection buckets in each of his seven venues across Rochdale for revellers to donate their spare cash.

These include Twist in Drake Street, Kandy Club, Sugar Sugar, Bar Vegas, Carousel, Koko Lounge and Sinclair’s in Stalybridge.

David said: "I’m happy to support Springhill Hospice, I’ve done events in the past for them, raising thousands of pounds. I think the New Roch Revolution Live event will be a big success without a doubt. This event will wake the town up!"

Opening the show will be The Brightsparks with a collection of cheeky home-grown tunes, followed by ‘ska cross-over band’ The Microtones, epic rock from Wolfgang Radio and catchy indie tunes from the Snow Byrds, before The Reveres take over, mixing it up to keep the crowd on their toes.

Headlining the event will be Sound Stripe, tearing up the stage with their own brand of garage rock, with bank holiday revellers taking the party into the night with a late night indie DJ set from Happy Mondays tour DJ Dave Sweetmore.

New Roch Revolution will be raising cash on Sunday from 6pm till late.

Entry is just £3 with the proceeds going to Springhill Hospice.
