Teenager in hospital after falling off bike

5/ 8/2008

A TEENAGE cyclist was seriously injured after falling off his bike in Balderstone.

The 15-year-old boy was riding his BMX along Oldham Road at about 6.20pm on Monday when he came into the path of a Vauxhall Astra car.

He swerved out of the way but fell off his bike and suffered a suspected broken jaw. He was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital and later transferred to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Pendlebury, where his condition is described as stable but serious.

The driver of the car was not injured. Oldham Road was closed to traffic at the junctions with Balderstone Road and Broad Lane and later reopened.

Any witnesses are asked to call police on 0161 856 8473.
