Rescue teams find body on mountain

THE body of a man thought to be from Rochdale has been recovered from a Welsh mountainside.
Rescue teams spent nearly five hours searching the mountain at Tryfan, Snowdonia, on Sunday.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, had been missing for nearly a week. Campsite owners raised the alarm after he had failed to remove his tent. He is thought to have fallen between 200 and 300ft.
A North Wales Police helicopter and an RAF helicopter both made a sweep of the area, but were hampered by poor visibility and found nothing.
Members of Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team eventually discovered the body at about 1.30pm on Sunday.
A spokesman for the team said: "We began the search at 8.30 on Sunday morning around the area where a rucksack belonging to the man was found. We believe the man is in his late 50s and from the Rochdale area of Greater Manchester. He was staying at a campsite, but hadn’t paid his fees for some days. Crews searched the main gully on the east face of Tryfan where the body was found camouflaged beneath the heather and bracken."
Police are not releasing the man’s name until the body has been formally identified and his family have been informed.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing and a post mortem is to be carried out.
