Police hit estate crime spots

5/ 8/2008

POLICE will be cracking down on crime and anti-social behaviour on the Kirkholt estate this week.

The operation, which started on Monday, includes high-visibility patrols with a mobile police station located in the area's worst hotspots.

Residents can visit the station to receive crime prevention advice from officers, report anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and fly-tipping or have their number plates secured.

In addition, police are making joint visits with victim support officers to homes of residents affected by crime, while Homewatch packs will be distributed in areas with a high rate of burglaries.

Inspector Michelle Hughes said: “I am confident that by maintaining a high-profile presence on the estate our officers can have a significant impact on the number of offences committed.

“We are determined that law-abiding residents should not have their quality of life affected by a criminal minority.”

The mobile police station will be in use on the following dates: Tomorrow (Thursday), Perth Road (1-pm); Friday, The Strand (8am-2pm); Saturday, Mannings (3-9pm); Wednesday, 13 August, St Thomas’s Church (8am-9pm).

What a joke!!!, sorry but what happened to breaking groups of teenagers up before they cause trouble?. All i've seen is the police talking to them and then going on their way leaving them all to carry on with what they were doing. I've had two mountain bikes stolen and the police know who did it because i gave names, yet no return of them. Every night something is going on on this estate and theres not a thing being done about it, i'ts ok picking them up and charging them, i'ts what they thrive off. I'ts some kind of competition to see who can be the baddest. If you are going to charge them and sentence them do it properly and dont send them to holiday camps, no wonder they re offend. This has got to be the worst council i've ever lived in and it aint going to get any better.
