Special day to give high five

FOR those people who haven’t yet given to the Can You Spare A Minute? appeal, why not commit to giving us a ‘high five’ on Friday?

Spare £5 on 08.08.08 – Bring A Fiver To Work Day – and your money will contribute to the Observer Appeal which aims to raise a minimum £25,000 for Springhill Hospice.

That sum will refurbish one of the three patient bays in the hospice. With a little luck – and our readers’ support – we hope to continue and raise enough to improve a second, and possibly third, bay.

With the refurbishments that have already taken place, it would mean that all patient accommodation in the hospice has been modernised and improved.

It also means you see exactly how the money YOU raise for our appeal has been spent at the hospice.

Staff at Rochdale Council will be passing the collection buckets round on Friday to support the day, as will staff at Rochdale Primary Care Trust headquarters at Telegraph House and 15 local clinics.

We also hope to get town centre shops and stores involved.

Our appeal brings together 25 years of fund-raising for the hospice and we want to make it an anniversary year to remember.

As Christine Webb, chief executive of the hospice, said at the launch of the appeal: "All our services are provided free of charge and this is only achievable because of the magnificent support that the people of Rochdale provide."

The Observer has backed fund-raising for the hospice from day one and, with your help, will go on doing so.

So, whether there are six, 60 or 600 people in your place of work, please consider supporting Bring A Fiver to Work Day – all you have to do is turn up to work with your money!

If you can spare it, we’ll make sure it’s put to very good use for at the hospice.
