Teenager is killed in car crash horror
22/ 7/2008
A 19-YEAR-OLD man from Facit has died following a car crash in Trafford Park.
Anton Furtado, of Croft Bank, was a passenger in a Toyota Yaris being driven by a friend when it was involved in a collision with a Ford Transit van at about 5pm on Friday.
The former Whitworth Community High School pupil was taken to Trafford General Hospital and died the following day.
His death comes just two months after a close friend was killed in a motorbike accident. Mr Furtado was the son of Joe Furtado, an English teacher at Whitworth Community High School.
Headteacher John Ferguson said: "Mr Furtado is absolutely devastated by the death of his son.
"I wasn’t at the school when Anton was a pupil, but the staff who were tell me he was a very pleasant, likeable boy. Whitworth is a small community and tragedies like this hit home hard."
Last month Anton posted a tribute on a website set up in memory of his friend, Zachary Storm Taylor, who died in May after his Suzuki motorbike was involved in a collision in Bury Road.
He wrote: "Gonna miss you loads. There so many people wishing to say so many things to you but can’t. At least this is here tho’. Can’t believe we’re not gonna see you again! Missin’ you already. Thanks for the laughs and RIP."
The 19-year-old driver of the Yaris was taken to Trafford General Hospital with minor injuries and later discharged, while the 23-year-old driver of the Transit is being treated in Hope Hospital for suspected spinal injuries.
The accident happened on a bend close to the junction of Ashburton Road West and Twining Road.
