Is this what they call a door-to-door service?

A driver got his bearings wrong when agreeing to pick up a friend from a Bamford beauty salon and ended up ploughing through the window.

Police believe the 83-year-old may have fallen unconscious at the wheel of his BMW before crashing into Hairworks on Bamford precinct on Wednesday afternoon.

Two customers and a number of staff were in the shop at the time.

A woman customer was taken to hospital with cuts caused by falling glass, while the driver managed to walk away from the crash and was treated by paramedics.

Hairworks manager Melanie Stanley said: "It was like something out of a movie. We were getting ready to close up when we heard a massive crash and the windows fell in.

"There was a lady by the reception and she was flung to the ground as the car ploughed right into the shop. I am just so thankful that no-one was working at that side of the shop or they could have been killed."

Incredibly the salon, which has been open since 1985, was back open for business at 8am the next day.

Melanie added: "Everybody rallied round to make sure we were open the next day."
