Hello to yellow

A YELLOW day at Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre is set to boost our appeal for Springhill Hospice on Saturday (21 June)

There’s entertainment throughout the day, competitions, raffles and giveaways – even an Elvis lookalike to get you all shook up.

Store and market staff will be dressed in yellow – the colour of the hospice movement – and there’s live music from Neil Pickering of Idol Frets, Des Friel, Rick Cigna, Jack Kay and friends, and the Wes Paul Band.

Shoppers should also look out for for the Observer’s ‘Can You Spare A Minute’ appeal stand for Springhill Hospice, where they can make a donation and pledge their support to the fundraising.

Exchange promotions co-ordinator Margaret Cigna said traders had been extremely generous and supportive.

She said: "Market traders have donated fruit hampers, a floral bouquet and other prizes, and we have yellow lingerie from Westgate, accessories from Diamonds and Pearls, and a free cut and blow from Hair Express.

"Prizes are still rolling in and there is a free draw to guess the number of balloons in a yellow Ka, supplied by Ford. The nearest guess will win a free service for their car.

"Bev, of Tasty Bite Cafe, has baked a large fruit cake iced in yellow – guess the weight and you’ll win it. Everyone has pitched in to make the Exchange’s Yellow Day a big success for the hospice."

Springhill Hospice fundraising manager Ian Jenkins is delighted with the support.

He said: "What started as a Yellow Day by Westgate last year has evolved to this. We are delighted.

"I hope people will enter the spirit of the occasion, have lots of fun and enjoy this special day of fundraising for the hospice."
