Team up for five-a-side

SPRINGHILL Hospice is striking out with its first-ever football fundraiser.

The hospice is inviting football enthusiasts to enter five-a-side teams and compete for the Springhill Hospice Charity Shield 2008.

Held in two separate heats, the competition will be staged at The Soccer Village over the weekend of 7 and 8 June.  The winners will play in a final game on the Sunday, starting at 5pm.

The coveted prize is the Springhill Charity Shield, sponsored by Mecure Norton Grange Spa Naturel and PGC Demolition.

Springhill Hospice community fundraiser Dean Connaughton, who is organising the event, said: "As a very keen footballer myself, I know that once the season finishes the opportunity to play is not always there.

"So for me, this is a great chance to extend the season and play in an organised competition, as well as raising much-needed money for our hospice."

Each team will consist of six members, five players and a substitute. The cost is £40 per team, payable by cash or cheque (made out to Springhill Hospice).

All games will be officiated by FA qualified referees. As there are only limited places available for the competition, teams are urged to get their places booked as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
