Firms hit by arson

6/ 5/2008

TWO Kingsway businesses were hit by suspected arsonists in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Just before 2am two fires were ignited on the forecourt of the Citroen garage, damaging four cars.

Fire crews were alerted to the blaze by a truck driver delivering goods to Morrisons supermarket. Firefighters spent about one hour battling to extinguish the flames.

Watch commander Mark Murphy said: “There were two separate fires, one at the front and one at the back of the showroom. We just managed to save it from spreading to the building.
“Police are investigating but at the moment we are treating it as a deliberate ignition.”

About 45 minutes later four pallets of gardening products were also set alight in the storage yard of The Range superstore

Bags of bark chipping and rolls of wooden lawn edgings were destroyed in the fire.
