A Boost for the super slimmer

LIFE’S a ball again for a Marland woman who has lost nearly 10 stone in two years.

Accountancy officer Una Jolly, of Crescent Road, is now almost half the woman she used to be after dropping seven dress sizes.

In less than two years the 35-year-old mother has plummeted from 20 stone 2lbs to 11 stone 3lbs and is heading for her target weight of 10 stone.

Now her battle against the bulge has been featured in the weight-loss magazine Boost.

Una, who stands at 5ft 5in, said: "I’m determined to get there.

"Losing weight has made the most incredible difference to me, to my life and my appearance. There’s no way I’ll ever go back to the way I used to be."

Una began gaining weight during her pregnancy when she was 23 and didn’t manage to shed the extra pounds after the birth of her daughter, Rebecca.

The weight continued to creep up, which she tried to hide with baggy clothes and elasticated waist bands.

"I would eat anything," she said. "I was constantly grazing – crisps, cheese, pizzas and takeaways. I was never really hungry, but eating became an obsession."

The turning point came when she realised that her feet had become too wide to fit into high-fashion stilettos and it was even painful to wear ‘nice, sensible’ shoes.

Una said: "It was when I found myself about to buy a pair of shoes with velcro fastenings that it struck home just how much my weight was affecting me."

Una joined Scottish Slimmers, following their Positive Eating Plan to a trimmer figure and hasn’t looked back.

After years of snacking on junk food and comfort eating, Una had forgotten just how tasty good food could be.

Una said: "My only regret is that I didn’t take control of my weight years ago.

"I always came up with excuses not to go on nights out.

"Invitations to weddings worried me because I didn’t know what to wear.

"I could have had 10 fantastic slim years, instead of 10 unhappy fat years.

"In less than two years my life has turned around completely. The girl I was all those years ago is well and truly back!
