Make sure you make your vote count

29/ 4/2008

ROCHDALIANS are being urged to use their democratic right and vote in Thursday's elections.

Local councillors’ seats are up for grabs across all wards in Rochdale and polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm.

Staff will be on hand to answer any questions about the voting process and anyone eligible to vote can turn up, even without a polling card.

Roger Ellis, the council’s returning officer, said: "It’s really important that you use your vote and take part in the democratic process.

"Councillors in your ward make decisions on your behalf all the year round on all kinds of issues that affect you, so this is your chance to take an active part in deciding who your representative is.

"I’m urging everyone who has a vote in the borough to use it – it does make a difference."

Votes will be counted after the polls close at 10pm, with the results expected in the early hours of Friday.
