Crash closes road

28/ 3/2008

POLICE cordoned off Smithy Bridge Road in Littleborough after a head-on collision.

Wednesday's crash, near the junction of Laurels Drive, was caused when a Range Rover travelling towards Smithy Bridge train station veered across to the right-hand side of the road.

It collided with a Vauxhall Astra travelling in the opposite direction, then mounted the kerb and crashed in to a nearby house causing the stone pillars surrounding the door to collapse.

A resident said: "I heard a great big bang, the whole house seemed to move."

The woman driver of the Astra was taken away in an ambulance and the male driver of the Range Rover was breathalysed and taken away for questioning by police.

Charles this man does these speeds regualary and i have taken his number.

The reason i have not reported it is because he doesn't look like the kind of guy who would take being "grassed up" lightly, ane we are not protected in court.

If their was more police on the roads like there used to be then he wouldn't get away with it.

We rely to heavily now on speed camera's for stealth tax, but these nutty drivers slow down and speed up again when approaching a camera.

In my experience as a driver Charles the worst offenders are 4x4's and van drivers.

Well done Roch Girl for an objective view. If the driver of the 70mph Range Rover (noted from a previous post) is such a concern of yours, take a note of the registration number and location of the alleged offence and report the matter to the Police. They are duty bound to investigate. A word from them may do the trick.

Many vehicles using Whitworth Road, especially north of Mizzy Road, drive like it's a 60mph stretch. Maybe the Police can pay the matter some attention.
