Knifepoint robbery caught on camera

DETECTIVES have released CCTV footage of a vicious armed robbery at a newsagent's shop.

The footage shows a hooded man enter the shop, and ask for cigarettes, before pulling out a large knife and threatening the woman shop assistant behind the counter.

He demanded money, leant over the counter and stabbed the till with the eight-inch blade. The till opened and he stole cash and cigarettes before running out of the shop.

The incident happened shortly before 9pm on Monday 3 March at Firgrove Newsagent's on Rochdale Road. Nobody was injured, but the shop employee was left shaken by the ordeal.

The offender is described as being white and aged between 20 and 25 years old. He is of slim build and had small brown eyes with medium to thick eyebrows and a clear complexion.
He was wearing a dark grey jacket with a hood up that appeared to be tied tight around his face. He was also wearing gloves and has a local accent.

Detective Constable Sam Halligan, of Rochdale CID said: "Although nobody was injured, this was a terrifying incident and it is vital we catch this robber.

"I would urge anyone who has any information to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4646 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."

   Good luck "ya know its right" you seem a hard working, decent guy wanting to make a good home for your family. Rochdale needs people like you and a lot of them.

   I came to rochdale in december 2001 and now ive had and seen enough,im off for a better life with the g/f and daughter. I thought this was a quiet little town and i came from a place known to be hard as nails.
