'Superbug' cases on the slide

31/ 1/2008

THE number of people contracting potentially fatal superbugs at Rochdale Infirmary is falling.

Figures released by the Pennine Acute Trust, the organisation which runs the Infirmary, show there were 12 cases of MRSA at the hospital from April to November last year, down from 15 on the same period in 2006.

Clostridium Difficile figures have also nearly halved over the same period, down from 95 in 2006 to 48 last year.

Marian Carroll, the Trust‘s director of nursing, said the drop was down to strict hygiene measures and a new ‘bare below the elbows’ policy for staff.

She added: “The Trust already has one of the lowest rates of C-diff in the whole of the North West and this continues to be the case.”

A deep cleaning ward programme has also begun.

Great work by the on-site staff, obviously, they haven't taken any notice of the bean counting government!
