Hospital rifle man in court

A BELFIELD man has appeared before magistrates accused of threatening staff and patients at Rochdale Infirmary with an air rifle.

Scott Charlton, aged 31, of Bellshill Crescent, was remanded in custody and will appear before Bolton Crown Court on 28 January.

Police were called to the accident and emergency department at about 1.50am on New Year’s Eve following reports that a masked man was pointing an air rifle at people in the reception area.

No one was injured and the weapon was not fired.

Charlton has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
