Lights of love shine

CHRISTMAS trees are shining with lights of love following a dedication service at Springhill Hospice.

The trees, which were blessed by Springhill Hospice chaplain Martin McGonigle, are now filled with dedication cards in memory of loved ones.

About 150 people attended the Lights of Love service and hospice fundraising manager Ian Jenkins said: "It was a full house.

"The weather was perfect, cold but bright and dry."

Over the years the appeal has raised thousands of pounds for the hospice, with Christmas trees placed throughout the borough and in the Wheatsheaf shopping centre, as well as at the hospice.

"It’s the perfect way to remember those who are no longer with us as we approach the time of year that traditionally brings families together," said Mr Jenkins.

He added: "We are very grateful to Rochdale Council for its support and also Heywood Market and the Wheatsheaf."

The service was enhanced by music from Rochdale Borough Youth Band and the voices of Rochdale Girls’ Choir.
