Three strikes and out

Laura Shannon

IT’S THREE strikes and then lights out in Castleton.

Following the theft of bulbs from Castleton’s Christmas tree, Rochdale Council has said it will replace the bulbs a maximum of three times and then the tree will have to remain undressed.

Councillor Pat Flynn said she was outraged by the thieves.

She said: "The Castleton councillors condemn those worthless individuals who are intent on wrecking Castleton’s Christmas atmosphere.

"It is unbelievable wanton vandalism to the lights on the tree and we implore residents to be vigilant and report this criminal damage to the authorities."

However, all is not lost because many Castleton businesses have cheered the area with their own lights.

She added: "We wish to compliment Castleton’s shopkeepers, publicans and all those who have added to the Christmas spirit by once again displaying the festive lights on their properties, which brighten the street scene.

"A special thank you goes to the All In One garden centre for again donating the main tree on the village green."
