Family pet is burned alive

A DAD has spoken of his horror after sick yobs hanged his family’s pet rabbit and burned it alive.

In a gruesome attack, the gang had taken the rabbit from its hutch at a garden shed in Merefield before tying a makeshift noose from a clothes line around its neck.

They then used white spirit to set the beloved pet alight.

Taswir Hussain described how he received a phone call from his wife and mother of their six children, Zaibun, on Sunday night.

"My wife heard screaming and thought it was kids at first," said Mr Hussain, a 53-year-old labourer, of New Barn Lane.

"She then saw a light in the garden and realised it was the rabbit burning. By the time I arrived it was dead."

Mr Hussain said the door of the shed, where the pet

and another rabbit were being kept, had been opened on Friday night and both had escaped.

They were later found and returned, but it is believed the same gang returned, this time grabbing one of the pets but sparing the other.

Mr Hussain said he was relieved to find the other rabbit safe and well but said he had no choice but to give it away to the RSPCA because he feared the yobs would return.

He said his six daughters had been left devastated by the loss of both animals.

"My two eldest daughters, who were there that night, were crying their eyes out," he said.

"We have never experienced anything like that before. If I found the person responsible I’d want to rip his eyes out."

Both the police and the RSPCA have been called in to probe the killing, which took place between 10pm and 10.45pm on Sunday.

PC Mark Challender said traces of white spirit and a washing line were also found near the hutch.

"It is obvious this attack was premeditated," he said.

"This was a tragic incident that has left a number of children very upset.

"I would appeal for anyone who can help us catch the perpetrators to come forward."

He asked witnesses to call 0161 856 8550.

I cannot believe someone could be so evil this act of cruelty is beyond comprehension. I would hope the punishment fits the crime but then civilised people do not act like this...pity

That's one of the most shocking things I've read about this year. Whoever did this is clearly disturbed and needs dealing with. Hopefully they will be dealt with in as barbaric a fashion, but no doubt the social authorities will find someone else to blame for these sick b******'s problems.
