Yobs cause train mayhem

RECKLESS yobs caused mayhem on the rail network as they lay a series of traps for oncoming trains.
A sofa was hurled on to the tracks during one of the worst attacks, causing a train running between Manchester and Rochdale to smash it to pieces.
Elsewhere, a steel cable was tied to the tracks, a train collided with a shopping trolley and a three-foot slab of concrete was thrown into the path of another.
The attacks happened near Shaw station between Tuesday night and Friday night and caused four trains to be taken out of service.
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of obstruction with the intent to endanger life.
A girl was also questioned but released without charge.
