Sudden death of former councillor

FORMER councillor Colin Thompson has died suddenly at the age of 57.
Police and paramedics rushed to his home on Vicarage Road North last night (Tuesday) following reports that Mr Thompson had collapsed.
He was pronounced dead shortly after they had arrived.
Police have since ruled out suspicious circumstances and have passed the matter to the coroner.
Mr Thompson was once one of Rochdale‘s most experienced Labour councillors and a former social services chairman.
His political career ended in 2003, when he lost his seat in the then Central and Falinge ward to newcomer, Councillor Mohammed Sharif.
Paying tribute to his friend, party leader Councillor Allen Brett said: “Colin‘s death is a sad loss to everyone who knew him and the local Labour party.”
