Objections coming from far and wide

27/11/2007

MORE than 300 letters have already been received at the planning offices in Telegraph House, including objections from as far afield as Sweden.

The Rev Lynne Connolly, vicar of St Clement’s Church, Spotland and a Meanwood Primary School governor, also expressed her fears.

She wrote: "The effect of transporting stone on such a large scale would quite obviously ruin people’s lives, homes, roads, the environment, nature and endanger the lives of children and older people.

"This is a ludicrous prospect."

Another letter of objection was received from Lanehead resident Rita Ollerenshaw.

She wrote: "My husband and I have lived in this lovely village for 48 years and the thought of those lorries going past our house for the rest of our lives would be devastating.

"Let us have the peace and tranquillity for the safety of our children’s and grandchildren’s futures."

Another outraged objector contacted the council from his home in Stockholm, Sweden.

Stuart Mendlsohn fears that the archaeological importance of the quarry has been overlooked and he wrote: "The archaeological survey of Ding Quarry has serious omissions."

Irene Simmonds of Rooley Moor Road said quarrying would endanger lives of residents who live locally, particularly the young children.
