Shoppers grab bag snatcher

BRAVE shoppers came to the rescue of a Whitworth woman after a thief snatched her bag from a town centre shop.
Kendall Pilling was having a cigarette outside the YMCA charity shop in Yorkshire Street, where she works as assistant manager, when a man stole her handbag from behind the counter.
The 20-year-old began to chase the thief through the town centre and as she did so was joined by a number of passing shoppers, including the father of a young boy who was knocked over by the man as he tried to escape.
Eventually one of the good samaritans caught up with him and rescued the bag before returning it to Kendall.
She said: “I saw a man grab my bag so I started shouting at him to stop but he ran off.
“I have seen it happen myself where someone has their bag snatched and people turn a blind eye so I didn’t expect anyone to help me.
“But as I was chasing him I was shouting ‘he’s got my bag, stop him’ and all of a sudden all hell broke loose and people everywhere started running after him.
“And eventually someone caught up with him near the bus station and got my bag back.”
Now Kendall wants to show her gratitude to the men who came to her assistance.
She added: “I don’t know who helped me and at the time I didn’t really get chance to thank them properly so I would like to say thank you now.”
