Appeal rallied residents to cause

14/11/2007

THE residents of Turf Hill rallied round to help the police search, led by Mr A Garfield.

A founder member and former chairman of the Turf Hill Tenants’ Association, he began the ‘Let’s Find the Killer’ appeal.

Mr Garfield said: “Somewhere among us there is a killer who is being shielded.

“Someone’s wife, mother or sweetheart must know this man who has done this brutal thing to this little girl.

“So I say to that person, come out and defend the proud name we have.  Let us all pull ourselves off the ground, look around and help the police to find this killer.”

All quiet on estate of fear

TURF Hill was an estate gripped by fear in the days and weeks following the murder of Lesley Molseed.

Children were no longer allowed to walk home from Kingsway School, instead being met at the gates by parents who had organised themselves into groups.

With the youngsters now under a strict curfew, play areas and grass verges stood deserted outside school hours.

Even when small groups did gather to play adults were never far away and errands to the shops were banned.
