Drug dealers move on college students

DRUG dealers are feared to be targeting Hopwood Hall College students.

Police are investigating claims that criminals are approaching the college’s Rochdale campus at lunchtimes.

Sergeant Shirley Carter is now appealing for the public’s help to identify the culprits.

“People have been spotted on the car park and surrounding streets and it is understood an exchange of goods has taken place,” she said.

“We don’t know what kind of drugs are changing hands, but it looks as if the college is being used as a drop-off point.

“It is very worrying that these dealers are targeting young people, encouraging them to take drugs.

“We would welcome any information about the offenders, particularly descriptions of their appearances or car registration numbers that would lead to arrests.

Hopwood Hall principal Derek O’Toole said the college had first alerted the police after the suspected drug problem was reported to staff.

“We have been working with the police and supporting them with their response,” he said.“They are aware that the college and other areas in the town centre are experiencing the same problem.”

Anyone with information can call the police on 0161 856 8523 or email rochdalenorthpolice@gmp.police.uk. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, for free and in confidence, on 0800 555111.

STEP 1 They should be photographed by a member of the public and placards made with the photo and the motto "I am a drug dealing scumbad"
