Commons hopeful blames MP

28/ 8/2007

THE decision to downgrade Rochdale’s hospital services has been blamed on Paul Rowen ‘playing politics’ and his lack of leadership.

Simon Danczuk, Rochdale’s Labour parliamentary candidate, claims that better financial management by the NHS trust and better political leadership from the Rochdale MP would have saved the vital services now set to go.

He described it as a ‘sad day for Rochdale’, but said he was convinced the outcome could have been different. He added that Mr Rowen’s approach to the campaign had been ‘wrong’. Mr Danczuk said: “I take no pleasure in saying he could have done more to save Rochdale Infirmary’s services.

“Instead of working to defend the Infirmary he has been antagonistic, failed to get investment and failed to provide solutions to meet care needs. His campaigning style has yet again provided a very poor result for the people of Rochdale.”

Dave Hennigan, Paul Rowen’s political agent, said: “We fully expected this attack from a discredited Labour party spokesman who has done absolutely nothing in this campaign along with his Labour colleagues.

“He thinks he can fool people but everyone knows that Paul Rowen and the Liberal Democrats, along with the Conservatives and thousands of other people in Rochdale, have done everything possible.”

Paul Rowan should be organising the buses and trains taking Rochdalians to march and protest in London. Sitting on your ar*e in the Commons does nothing. A mass sit down in Westminster might open the governments' eyes.

Simon could have done more to save these services himself but I accept that he's not our MP.

However, I do agree that Paul Rowen is not really demonstrating any leadership in turning Rochdale's fortunes around. I can't remember the last time I read a story where he actually did something for Rochdale other than make angry pronouncements about how unjust everything is.
