Birthday boy is robbed of parents' gift

FOR Ryan Taynter it was supposed to be one of his best days of the year.

But instead of celebrating his birthday, the 15-year-old had to spend hours talking to police about his ordeal at the hands of a vicious mugger.

Ryan, from Belfield, had been trying out a present from his parents, David and Shannon – a brand new BMX – when the mugging happened at about 6pm last Wednesday.

Cycling past Waithlands Road on the way back from his grandmother’s home, he was approached by a boy who told him to hand over his bike or ‘I’ll batter you.’

Ryan did as he was told and began to walk away but was then chased by the offender who grabbed him by the neck as he reached Mentmore Road and threw him on the floor.

The thief then took his mobile phone.

His mother, Shannon James, said: "Ryan is very down about what happened.

"He was upset about losing the new bike and his phone, which was not a present but for which he had been saving up money for a memory card to download music.

"We were going to do something to celebrate his birthday, but instead we had to go down into the police station."

She added; "I’d like anyone who saw what happened to contact the police."

The offender is described as white, between 5ft 6ins and 8ins tall, of slim build, with dark hair.

He was wearing a blue T-shirt with a Timberland logo on it.

Witnesses are asked to call 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

To add insult to injury.....a couple days after this article was posted....i started recieving phone calls for Ryan Taynter... I looked the name up on the web and this is what i found. I got phone calls from banks, credit card companies, lots of people looking for payment. There is no one even in my area with that last name. I would check out identity theft if i were you. And i live in the US

Citizens in Belfast recently poured tar over a drug dealer, tied him to a lampost and covered him in feathers. A sign was placed round him saying "I am a drug dealing scumbag" Guess what? He left the area! You get the tar and leave the rest to me!
