Post-16 school and college league tables (A-Level)
The marks do not just show A-level results but the results of students taking a variety of subjects in their final year of study.
In order to compare the success of students taking different qualifications government education officials use a points system.
Different qualifications earn different points. For example, an A grade at A-level is equal to 240 points, a B is 240, C is 210, D 180 and E 150.
A student who gained an A (270) and three B (240) grades at A-level would score a total of 270 + (240X3) = 720 points.
Because of the extra coursework, Vocational A levels and BTech national certificates translate into double points, with a B grade equal to 480 points. AS grades are worth half the equivalent A-level score.
A table listing the grades and their equivalents can be seen at the Qualification and Curriculum Authority's website
