PHOTOS used to advertise Rochdale as a great place for business have been criticised after it was revealed they were actually out-of-town locations.

   What are you talking about L? We shouldn't be aspiring to be like Manchester or somewhere else. We should have a distinctive plan to capitalise on our own uniqueness and regenerate our town centre under our own steam not by borrowing someone else's vision. How dare you call people dim for actually having some imagination of their own and civic pride.

   Is this man completely daft? Of course the images are of other locations - they're intended to show what Rochdale aspires to be after these redevelopments. The Observer ought to be more accurate as well - these aren't advertising Rochdale as a 'great place for business', they're just something to brighten up a demolition hoarding.

This is exactly the same issue as the GMPTE leaflet: if people don't understand the illustrative purpose of stock photography, it's their own fault. There's no need for some sort of disclaimer, as Allen Brett suggests - how dim does he think we are?
