I would like to see the site cleared of asbestos. Bearing in mind the millions Turners and their employees paid in taxes, surely central government could see a "special case" here and foot the bill. I would then like to see industry back on the site. Providing work badly needed in the Spotland area. How about carbon fiber manufacture, one of the safe substitutes for asbestos? See www.carbon-fiber.com Remember, Turners were a class act, exporting all over the world to the highest level of technical competence. All made in Rochdale.

I have to thank somebody for having the courage to realize that by building on the old T&N site it would bring only more heartache to the people of Rochdale for years to come. Keep the site in mind for a conservation area, it deserves to be treated with respect, just like the victims who laid down their lives for their work.

Well done everyone who has fought so long and hard against this development.

Well said Dave. There is so few places that are not developed where we can escape. I have witnessed dead deer and ducks that were shot by scumbags. For once lets put money into nature instead of concrete jungles. The main problem is we are just too over populated.

Building 600 houses alone on the old Turner Brothers site would have been a massive mistake. While highlighting contamination as a major concern for residents now add to this traffic problems. For example over the years queuing traffic has increased travelling into the littleborough area and sometimes it seems to take an age to pass through this place. One of the reasons for this has been the building of new homes in this area. This is a wide main road compared to the road network around Spotland Bridge to Rooley Moor and other areas. Residents have complained in the Caldershaw area that they are fed of speeding traffic cutting through the housing estate. If 600 homes are built in this area this will bring more than 600 cars. Then you have the idea of a business park….no need to highlight what problems this will bring. This housing project must never go ahead. Lets us think about making the countryside in this area a place to come and recognise this area as a nature reserve. Build a proper centre for people to visit and mark out public path ways for people to walk through the wood. Lets also make sure the yobs also respect this area somehow.
