Southport has indeed suffered greatly as John Lee reports.

After a CARES-organised march of protest involving 4,000 people and nearly 20,000 names on petitions presented to the health authorities and Westminster they still stripped us of our local children's A&E and maternity back in 2003.

The NHS is not safe and is really in a diabolical mess.

The fight goes on.

Is there any other hospital? YES THERE IS - SOUTHPORT! The same cuts at our hospital has created unrest over the last 4 years and more. The local LibDem MP, John Pugh, has made political capital out of the situation. Local, non-LibDem, campaigners have been ridiculed by the MP and his helpers and "consultation" with the local population has been a matter of "we're going to do these things - you can object to them as much as you want, but we'll do them anyway". A total farce and a disgrace.
