My name was Susan Burns at the time I was privileged to meet Sir Cyril Smith when I was at Redbrook Secondary school. He came to a performance of Papageno and then invited the whole cast to the Mayor's parlour at the RochdaleTown Hall where we had coffee and sandwiches. Then all of us signed our names in the visitor's book. I admire him very much for the difference he has made over the years for the community of Rochdale.

Happy belated 80th Birthday Sir Cyril from Carole Robinson (nee Warne) from Canada. Originally from Sheriff Street, Rochdale. You knew the Warne family very well in the 1960's. My sister Pamela was in the Debrose Choir before she moved to the United States. Have a wonderful year and many more to come. Your are looking good in the photo. Best regards, Carole (Warne) Robinson. Canada

Well done Cyril. Many congratulations on your 80th Birthday. You are certainly ‘Mr Rochdale’. You can never be thanked enough for all the hard work and dedication you have given for the people of Rochdale. Very best wishes from Elsie and David Hewitt, Thornton-Cleveleys.
